‘Dhak competition’and colourful cultural event conclude in Tura
TURA: Wrapping up the Durga Puja festivities in Garo Hills, a ‘Dhak Competition cum Cultural Function’ was held at the Tura Police Parade Ground on Sunday, where talented drummers from the various puja pandals vied for the winners title.Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong, Swami Sarvabhutananda, attended the programme as the Chief Guest and appealed to the people to spread the message of peace. He urged them to follow in the footsteps of Swami Vivekananda and to serve the people of all communities equally and selflessly. Guest of Honour and Don Bosco College Principal, Fr Vivan R Mukhim also spoke on the same lines and made an appeal to the people to maintain peace and harmony. West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, MGR Kumar was also present during the programme. The best puja pandals for different categories were also announced and prizes were handed over to the winners. Fancy Valley Puja Pandal emerged as the overall champion by winning the top prize for best temple interior, pandal/approach decoration, best illumination, second prize for best hospitality and best immersion procession and third prize in the Dhak competition.
Police commemoration day observed in Ampati
Ampati: South West Garo Hills District Police led by Deputy Commissioner Ramkumar S and Superintendent of Police BSW Momin paid homage to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty during a Police Commemoration Day held at Ampati Police Station on Sunday. Police personnel of all rank and file were present during the programme.
Teachers’ workshop on innovation to be held in city
SHILLONG: The State Council of Science, Technology & Environment(SCSTE), Meghalaya in collaboration with the College for Teachers Education (PGT), Shillong will organise a three day ‘Workshop on Innovative Experiments’ from October 24 to 26 at the Conference Hall of the College of Teachers Education (PGT) from 10:00 am onwards. The main objective of the workshop is to orient science teachers and communicators in innovative ways of teaching. Resource person from Vigyan Prasar Manish Yadav will attend the programme along with BKTyagi, Scientist E, Vigyan Prasar, Noida. The Workshop is being sponsored by Vigyan Prasar, Noida, UP.
Demand to regularise Civil Task Force casual workers
SHILLONG: The AYC Tikrikilla on Monday urged the state government to look into the grievances of the casual workers of Meghalaya Civil Task Force regarding their demands for regularisation. It may be mentioned that the casual workers of Meghalaya Civil Task Force have been demanding regularisation of their services with full scale pay, allowances, allocations of DA/TA, pension, retirement benefits, and to be treated as a genuine force in the state on a par with the Meghalaya police force.The casual workers had also submitted a memorandum to the Chairman of the State Planning Board in 2008 and the Principal Secretary of Labour Department in 2017 placing various demands.
