MAWKYRWAT: South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo on Thursday warned all wholesalers in the district that stern action would be taken against anyone found supplying inferior quality of rice to schools under the midday meal scheme.
The warning came after it was found that inferior quality of rice, unfit for human consumption, was supplied recently to a school.
“Violators will be fixed with the responsibility of wrongdoing and will be taken to task according to the law. It is the duty of wholesalers to check the quality of rice before lifting it from the FCI godown,” Laloo said. “Strict orders will also be given to school managing committees to check and report to authorities concerned on the quality of rice given to children failing which stern action will be taken against them,” she added.
