SHILLONG: HSPDP president KP Pangniang on Thursday stayed away from commenting on the issue of common candidate with UDP maintaining that there were no discussions on the issue.
“I will not comment much as we need to discuss this in the party. So far the common candidate agenda has not been discussed in the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) also,” he told reporters.
RDA is an alliance of UDP-HSPDP.
However, Pangniang said there are some aspirants from HSPDP who wish to contest the Lok Sabha election.
The RDA will remain as it is and there is a mutual arrangement internally between the two parties, he added.
When asked whether the party is insecure over the frequent shift of allegiances by MDCs in the KHADC, he said, “We don’t have any such insecurity. Yes, the storm can blow here and there. Currently, they maintain principle.”
As the party is gearing up for the 50 years of existence, Pangniang said, “We want to retain back the good image of HSPDP.”
