TURA: The Dadenggre District Demand Committee (DDDC) has submitted a memorandum to Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma once again raising the decade old demand for creation of Dadenggre into a district.

The demand for creation of Dadenggre into a district was first made in 1999 by the local unit of the GSU and the All Garo Union Dadenggre Unit. Two memorandums were submitted by the GSU- one to then deputy chief minister, Dr Donkupar Roy in 2006 and another, to then Chief Miister, Mukul Sangma in 2012. Again in 2015, another memorandum on the issue was submitted to the Meghalaya Government by the Association for Dadenggre Development (ADD), a conglomeration of several organizations from the region.

The DDDC quoting information as per the 2011 census said that Dadenggre Civil Sub-division has an area covering approximately 1,700sq kms and a total population of 3,61000 (approximately ). The region has more than 2000 schools and 4 colleges in its jurisdiction.

The new proposed district if created would cover all areas of Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division as well as those under Rakdsamgre civil Sub-division. The proposed district should have six MLA constituencies- Dadenggre, Phulbari, Rajabala, Selsella, Tikrikila, and Raksamgre. The district district would have four community and rural development blocks- Dadenggre, Selsella, Tikrikilla and newly created Dedera Block. It would also include eight GS circle from 15 GS circles of Rongram block which are Rongbakgre, Waram asimgre, Marakapara,Aguragre, Anogre, Rombagre, Rongdengre and Baljek agal.

Pointing out that the creation of the proposed new district would create employment opportunities for the youths of the area as well as ease the problems of people living in far flung villages, the DDDC urged the CM to look into the matter at the earliest.
