SHILLONG: The makers of the Khasi film Nabon – A journey of faith, which will be screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) on November 13, faced many challenges in the form of urban development while recreating the charm of Sohra, Mawmluh and Nongsawlia in 1841.
Associate director of the movie Elmer R. War told The Shillong Times, “To get the setting of 1841, we had to avoid mobile towers, black-topped roads, electric poles and anything that were not present during those days.”
He maintained it is not a religious movie but a biopic that tells the journey of Nabon Sawian who was the first Khasi woman to become a Christian.
The film took 24 days to shoot and it took one and a half year to complete, starting from the audition to post-production.
The film is based on the research and script of late H.B. Kharlukhi and produced by the youth wing of the KJP Synod Sepngi along with the women’s wing. The 24th Edition of KIFF will be held in Kolkata on November 10-17 and is being organised under the supervision of Information and Cultural Department, State Government of West Bengal.
