TURA: Unidentified miscreants triggered a low intensity blast outside a government building in Williamnagar town of East Garo Hills on Monday night. There were no casualties.
According to district police chief RTG Momin the explosion occurred at around 10:35 pm in front of a shack behind a government cooperative building where some carpenters were sleeping.
“The blast was of low intensity and no one was hurt. The shack which is made of CGI sheets was also not damaged apart from a small dent caused by the explosion,” said the SP.
The place of explosion is barely 50 meters from the office of the Superintendent of Police.
Police are yet to establish the motive behind the incident but have intensified patrolling and security in and around the district headquarters.
Following the death of dreaded GNLA chief Sohan Shira and the subsequent surrender of the group’s rebels, there has been relative calm in the region for the last couple of months.
However, an array of hidden arms of the group continues to be unearthed by police regularly.
Police do not rule out the role of certain disgruntled elements from rebel groups behind the incident given that a large number of surrendered cadres now live overground and pose a challenge to police to monitor their movements.
