NONGPOH: The Nongpoh Region Auto Owners and Drivers Association (NRAO&DA) in a meeting held on Friday unanimously decided to hike the auto fare by Rs 5 from the previous rates which have been in place since 2012.
However, the fare hike will not affect those who are within Nongpoh area and the aged persons but only those areas where the distance from Nongpoh is beyond the 3 kilometers.
The association president, Marcus Marten informed that the fare hike will be effective from Monday.
Marten also stated that the fare hike was due to the increasing rate of petrol and diesel which has affected not just the commercial vehicles but even the farmers and people at large.
It may be mentioned here that the association had on September 20 organised a rally at Nongpoh to protest against the increasing price of petrol and diesel.
