SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) , a major ally in the NPP-led MDA Government seems to have braced itself for any challenges in future with regards to the fielding of Jemino Mawthoh as a common candidate from Shillong.
Sources in the party who did not wished to be identified when inquired about unconfirmed reports of fielding the former Minister as UDP candidate from Tura seat said that if the talks failed for a common candidate for Lok Sabha polls, anything is possible.
Unconfirmed reports say that UDP leaders in Garo Hills is keen to field BG Momin as the party candidate from Tura seat but sources said that the party was not aware of such a move as of now.
Meanwhile, UDP senior leader, Allantry Franklin Dkhar have downplayed all the misunderstandings by saying that synergy among the partners of the MDA alliance is much better this time than the previous alliances
Reacting to a query, he said that the Opposition would often try to topple the Government as it ws their work but the alliance on the other hand would progress in cementing the ties better and better.
Reacting to a query about the misunderstandings which the issue of common candidate may create in the alliance, he said that the party was geared up for it and in a family, misunderstandings could happen but it should be seen as an opportunity to open up and further cement ties.
He also said that the Coordination Committee of the alliance would always meet and address all the issues to the satisfaction of one and all.
