SHILLONG: The state government will disburse 30 per cent of the pending arrears to government employees by next month despite cash crunch.
A senior Finance department official said on Tuesday that since the government had given a commitment to its employees, it would disburse the arrear in December before Christmas.
The financial involvement for the arrear, including pension is Rs 205 crore.
The commitment of the government is following the implementation of the fifth pay commission recommendations.
Last year, the government had disbursed 40% arrear and the next year, the remaining 30% will be released.
The official added that though the state faces financial crunch, the government has been able to give salary to the staff in time.
Other committed expenditure of the government will be in terms of providing UGC scale to the college teachers and pay and other allowances to the deficit school and college teachers.
The recent order of the High Court of Meghalaya to provide post-retirement and provident fund benefits to the teachers will also bring additional burden to the state.
