VEC secretary accused of fund misuse in SGH

TURA: Different projects of the Kapasipara VEC under Gasuapara Block in South Garo Hills is in the list for spot inquiry after villagers and Nokmas of the area alleged that many MGNREGS projects from way back as 2007 to 2018 have remained a non-starter despite funds meant for the same being already withdrawn by the VEC Secretary.

According to the Gasuapara Regional Unit of the Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), villagers along with local leaders and Nokmas met its leaders recently and complaint that no work has been started on many MGNREGS projects allotted to the VEC since 2007.

The association in turn, recently met the BDO of Gasuapara Block and apprised him of the matter where they were assured by the official that spot inquiry of projects under the VEC would be conducted soon.

Leaders of the association are also said to have inspected some of the project sites but failed to find any that were standing.

“We were unable to cover all the areas but found no signs of work at the sites we visited. W have demanded strong action against the VEC secretary if the allegations of the villagers are found to be true,” the association said.
