TURA: Internationally Awarded music composer, designer, singer and Film maker, Mikhail Marak was recently felicitated during the first ever concert and recital organized by the Educere School of Music, Williamnagar at the District Auditorium.
Marak did his masters in filmmaking, specializing in sound design & recording from Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, Kolkata. He was invited to be part of the Asian Film Academy at Busan in South Korea in 2014, where he won award of the night, “Best in Short Film Production” out of 24 contestants from all over Asia. He also won National Students’ Film Award (NSFA) for ‘Best Sound Design’ in 2015, ‘Best Sound Mixing’ Award in the 7thFilmsaaz in 2014 in International Category for a short film named ‘A Bhadralok’s Adventure’. He was awarded ‘Youth Awards 2015’ under category ‘Community Peace & harmony’ for “Jagitel”- A prayer for Peace, written, composed and directed by Mikhail Marak which went on to become the first Garo Song to be broadcasted in MTV Indies.
He also composed “Krimkro – Rhythm of the Hills” which was the main anthem for the annual festival “Rhythm of the Hills” held at Betasing in South West Garo Hills. The 30 Minute film called” Yathawat (As it is ) “ for which he scored Music and sound designed was screened in the ,Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) and International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2015. Walnam Kasara Pring (An Ode to life) was one of the hits from last year and the video soon become sensation on YouTube.
His latest unreleased work is the main theme song for the Garo film Ma.ama which is at present, doing the film festivals round. He currently manages and runs his own Music and Film Production House- Nokpante Production.
