SHILLONG: The MLA Jirang Sosthenes Sohtun has requested  the chief engineer MeECL Distribution on the unsafe condition of electric poles, cables damaged by rust and wind endangering the residents.

He said the poles would likely collapse at any time and the areas affected are: Byrnihat especially in the Industrial area and locals of Barapathar, 9th Mile Baridua, Jorabat, Umtyrnga etc., along the GS Road under Jirang constituency of Ri-Bhoi district.

He cited an incident in which a child was injured while playing near the unattended electric wire lying on the ground.

In this connection, Sohtun urged the chief engineer to look into the matter urgently for replacement of the rusted, damaged and bent poles by cemented pole in all the villages under Jirang constituency to prevent unwanted incident in the future.
