AMPATI: As the month-long campaign for Measles Rubella Vaccination draws to a close, South West Garo Hills District has achieved 100.28 per cent in immunising children from 9 months to 15 years of age, crossing the district target of 59232 on the 29th day of the campaign.
It may be mentioned that towards the end of campaign the district health authorities including all health facilities had accelerated their efforts to ensure that all children in the target group are immunised by intensifying the awareness and IEC activities and conducted repeat vaccination sessions in schools and sweeping activities to vaccinate any missed children in the district. Door to door visits were also made to ensure vaccination of children in every household.
Earlier, the district health teams had also organised vaccination sessions at various Puja pandal sites during Durga Puja in October with the coordination and cooperation of the puja committees.
“The achievement has been made possible due to dedication and commendable efforts put in by our vaccinators, ASHAs, Anganwadi workers, Supervisors, Medical Officers, District Monitors, Nokmas, teachers, NGOs, community members and all DTFI members together with the support from the District Administration,” District Immunisation Officer, Dr. C.R. Sangma said.
Sangma said that the coordinated approach and support of the District Administration under the leadership and guidance of Deputy Commissioner Ramkumar S, BDOs, District Police and the Transport department had really boosted up the morale of the district health team during the campaign.
Although the district target was to vaccinate 59232 children during campaign, altogether 59398 children have been vaccinated putting the district percentage at 100.28 per cent as on Monday.
