One held for smuggling logs
SHILLONG: West Garo Hills Police have arrested one person for smuggling illegal logs. Inspector W.R Marak, CI Phulbari WGH lodged a complaint that on November 9, he detected one truck (ML-07B-2471) loaded with illegal logs while it was proceeding from Kachengpara village. On reaching a check point, the official signaled the vehicle to stop but it sped off towards Rajabala. Following this, a police team chased the truck and nabbed it at Chokchokia village. In an attempt to flee again, the truck reversed and hit the Police vehicle. The driver is identified as Jaidur Islam.

House set ablaze in WKH
NONGSTOIN: A house belonging to Sasilia Nongrem of Nongrathaw village, West Khasi Hills, was torched by miscreants. An FIR lodged by Trosparly Puwein (73), headman of Nonghynrum village, stated that Phormen Mawlong of Nongmawlai allegedly set ablaze the abandoned house of Nongrem. Property worth Rs 50,000 has been detroyed. In this connection, a case has been registered and investigated into.

Three sustain injuries in accidents
SHILLONG: Three persons were injured in unrelated accident cases on Wednesday.35-year-old Robin Sharma sustained injuries when his scooty skidded at Dagugre, West Garo Hills around 6:27 pm. The victim was later shifted to Tura Civil Hospital by 108 Tura based ambulance. In another incident, Bansiewbor Kharkongor (23) was injured after two trucks collided at Puriang main road, East Khasi Hills around 12:39 am. The victim is in a critical condition and is admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital Shillong.  A truck while reversing hit a wall near Mawblei Petrol Pump resulting in injury to Kedrik Shabong (38). The victim was shifted to Civil Hospital by 108 Lawmali based Ambulance.

World Diabetes Day observed
SHILLONG: World Diabetes Day was observed by the Meghalaya Diabetes Association in collaboration with the Alumni Nurses Association of Civil Hospital Nursing School on Wednesday. The day kicked off by a walkathon at 7.30 am in presence of chief guest Dr Lamare Jt. Director and civil surgeon, the principal of Nursing School Civil Hospital, nursing superintendent, teaching faculty and students. A health awareness programme was also organised for the nurses at Nazareth Hospital where over 60 nurses participated. A talk on ‘The Family and Diabetes’ was delivered by Dr Paul Dkhar, general secretary of Meghalaya Diabetes Association to the medical fraternity of Shillong at conference hall of the hospital.

Dist governor of Rotary attends joint meeting
SHILLONG: The district governor of Rotary District 3240, Dr Sayantan Gupta, recently visited the Rotary club of Shillong and Rotary club of Orchid City. While addressing the joint meeting of the two clubs, Gupta impressed upon the Rotarians to be the inspiration for others with their service projects for the benefit of the society. He narrated how the continued efforts of the Rotarians worldwide contributed for the eradication of Polio from society. Gupta appreciated the projects taken by the Rotary clubs of Shillong while urging them to continue the good work for the welfare of the society. Earlier, the members paid condolences to Retired Justice SN Phukan, former a member of the club.
