School girl injured at Nongpoh road mishap

NONGPOH: A student studying in Class XI at Alpha English Higher Secondary School, identified as Rani Rongpeit, was seriously injured when an overspeeding sumo coming from Shillong towards Guwahati hit her while she was crossing the road on her way to school to sit for her examination.

Sources informed that the incident happened on Tuesday afternoon at Nongpoh. She was hit by a sumo having registration number MZ01 J9094 leaving her seriously injured.

The driver of the sumo instead of stopping his vehicle and take the injured girl to hospital, he tried to run away from the spot without even stopping his vehicle. Thanks to the people who witnessed the incident and the police, the driver along with his vehicle was later arrested and brought to Nongpoh Police Station for interrogation.

The girl who was seriously injured was then rushed to Bethany Hospital Nongpoh for immediate treatment and later shifted to NEIGRIHMS.
