TURA: In a bid to highlight their demand at the state corridors of power, supporters of the Garoland state, under the aegis of the Garoland State Movement Committee, have decided to stage a procession in Shillong on December 5.
“We have decided to stage a peaceful procession in Shillong on at 11 am on December 5 to once again remind the present government of our longstanding demand in a democratic way,” informed GSMC Chairman Nikman Ch Marak. He said that their demand for creation of a separate Garoland state has been a long standing genuine issue which remained unattended to by successive state and central governments for over a century.
“In spite of the fact that this legitimate movement had been spearheaded by our forefathers under different aegis for generations to materialise the cherished aspirations of the people of Garo Hills belonging to different tribes, the ultimate goal to achieve Garoland statehood is yet to see the light of day,” rued the separate state leader.
According to the GSMC leaders, members of the movement along with well-wishers will proceed in a procession that will begin from the state central library premises passing through the Secretariat office via police bazaar-AG Office and back to the library.
The organisers of the rally are optimistic large number of supporters for the separate state will actively take part in the procession to showcase to the government the peoples’ demand.
