SHILLONG: Rashi Vaswani knows well how to put icing on a special occasion and if it is a wedding, she does not mind being generous.
At City Hut Dhaba restaurant here on Thursday, Vaswani took her generosity a degree higher and put on display a stunning collection of over 17 designer wedding cakes, “each with a story to tell”, under the brand name of Bread Café, of which she is the proprietor.
From dreamy white, peachy pink to black beauty, the cakes can easily take the limelight off the newly-weds. Vaswani, who was busy dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s before the inauguration of the two-day exhibition, said she was catching up with the “fashion of cake industry”.
The colour and design of each cake were chosen to show the union of two worlds, those of the bride and the groom, amid the pristine nature of Shillong.
Cherry Blossom hand-painted cake was a perfect creation for the season. “Shillong is the city of cherry blossoms. Bread Café has taken the scenic charm to offer newlyweds a taste of the city’s new iconic fauna,” reads the story at the foot of the 28″ four-tier cake.
There was Pink Romance that “shouts the joy and celebration of two people in love coming together”.
There were cakes of different flavours some of which were new. Vaswani said her personal favourite is the Royal Wedding Cake with Gazebo, “which is as gorgeous as a bride”. The white body of the four-tier cake had intrinsic designs with white roses creating a bridal aura.
Among the other designer delights, there were Golden Moments, Gold and Bold, Softly Wild, Florets, Beauty and Beau, Love Steps and Bows and Made for Each Other, an absolute beauty with hearts and roses.
When asked why she thought of exhibiting wedding cakes, Vaswani said, “I want Shillong to be at the top in every respect. And when it comes to wedding cakes, I do not want our brides here to think that beautiful cakes are for those living in metros. They should also get the best.”
There was a confectionary counter at the venue where guests can indulge in an array of wedding tidbits and pastries. The exhibition was inaugurated by chief guest Mariahom Kharkrang and guest of honour Ian Onel Swer. Bread Café also launched its chocolate brand of the same name.
