Chief of Air Staff inaugurates commander’s conference
SHILLONG: A two-day commander’s conference of the Eastern Air Command was inaugurated by the Chief of Air Staff BS Dhanoa at HQ Eastern Air Command on Thursday. Air Marshal R Nambiar, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command welcomed the Chief of the Air Staff and introduced him to the commanders. Addressing the commanders, Dhanoa exhorted them for their determined contribution towards the endeavour of the organisation to upgrade the operational capability of eastern zone and stressed on the importance of leadership, team building and discipline. The Air Chief Marshal also handed out awards for excellence to the commanders for their achievements in the fields of operations, maintenance and administration. Air Force Station, Guwahati was awarded the ‘Pride of EAC’ for best overall performance while Air Force Station, Salua was awarded the ‘Best Non-Flying Station’. Meanwhile, President of the Air Force Wives Welfare Association (AFFWA) Kamalpreet Dhanoa interacted with the local AFWWA presidents of the Eastern Air Command.

LP contract teachers want TET exemption
SHILLONG: The contract teachers of government lower primary schools in West Garo Hills on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma through Phulbari MLA SG Estamur Mominin urging the government to regularise their service without the Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET). The memorandum said after fulfilling NCTE norms, the teachers were hopeful that their services would be regularised but it was ignored and MTET was declared. They also lamented that the age bar for MTET will not be applicable in their case as they have been serving for a long time and they have not been provided any relaxation as far as age bar is concerned. The teachers added that previously, they had to secure 45 percent in their Class XII examination but now it has been increased to 50 percent. Stating that the government had them to undergo D.EL.Ed and they are accordingly undergoing the diploma. “But the new concept of Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test will definitely snatch away our jobs,” they said. Mominin has assured the teachers that he would take up the matter with the chief minister.

AHAM asks GHADC to release employees’ salary by December
TURA: The recently established A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), under the leadership of former GNLA Chairman Champion R Sangma, has issued a demand stating that the three month salary of GHADC employees must be paid within the month of December or it would stage an indefinite hunger strike in front of the residences of the Chief Minister and GHADC CEM. The demand was made in a statement issued on Thursday however, Facebook posts of Sangma have already been doing the rounds in which he asserted that the demand must be met or the GHADC authorities would have to face the consequences. The organisation has also threatened to take up the matter with the High Court.

DC flags off Swasth Bharat Yatra cycle rally
SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner PS Dkhar on Thursday flagged off the Swasth Bharat Yatra bicycle rally from Polo Parking Lot. The rally is part of the Swasth Bharat Yatra on ‘Eat Right India’ – a PAN India cycle tour. The cyclists will cycle their way through the city till they reach Umiam. The Swasth Bharat Yatra team arrived in the city on November 20 and will make their way towards Ri Bhoi where they will hold similar programmes at Nongpoh College and USTM, Kiling before heading off to Guwahati. The Swasth Bharat Yatra was initiated by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) with an objective to spread awareness on the importance of eating right in order to stay healthy.

Body recovered in Iewduh
SHILLONG: The body of an unidentified male was found lying on the road side beside a tree near the army gate at Khlieh lewduh on Sunday. The body was later sent to SDM&HO Civil Hospital for PM examination and is being kept at the Civil Hospital morgue. The deceased appears to be 50 to 60 years of age, 5’5″ tall, has a dark complexion and was found wearing a grey sweater, grey coat and brown track pants. Individuals who can identify the body may contact 2548151 or 2222277.
