SHILLONG: The Committee on Women Empowerment headed by MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh has demanded an independent inquiry into the recent attack on CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma
The committee on Monday  summoned the East Jaintia Hills  (EJH) DC and SP to get a status of the investigation launched after the deadly attack on the social activists.

Speaking to media, Ampareen Lyngdoh slammed the District Administration for slow pace of inquiry into the matter.
The committee objected to various lapses which has been reported during the course of the investigation
Lamenting that the investigation into the matter is very slow, Lyngdoh also informed that they would submit s preliminary report of their findings so far before the Assembly on Tuesday during the special session.

We want an independent inquiry in which there shall be no officials from that particular district, Lyngdoh said.

On the other hand, member of the committee, HM Shangpliang informed that both the civil activists were given tea at Ladrymbai police outpost there when they visited the station before proceeding to Sohshrieh
He informed that that there an ASI and a constable were present in the police station and after the incident , the constable has gone on leave.
There are many missing links, Shangpliang said
The committee also lamented that one of the victims, Amita Sangma had sent a letter to the DGP about the attackers and though the letter had been forwarded to the concern SP,  no action had been taken as now.
In addition, the committee has also asked the Deputy Commissioner to ensure that the compensation for the two victims as decided by the High Court is paid to them within seven days while expressions concern over the fact that District Administration had initially planned to give a compensation of Rs 12700 each and that too from Disaster Management corpus of the District.

Meanwhile, the committee has also taken exception to the absence of additional Deputy Commissioner of the District SS Syiemlieh who did not respond to the summon of the committee on Monday though he is conducting an inquiry into the matter. We have asked for an explanation from him, the committee members added.

The Committee also slammed the ADC for summoning Agnes Kharshiing for inquiry despite the fact that she is not in a position to speak and the committee termed the actions of ADC as insensitive.
The Committee members also lamented that the inquiry which is being conducted by the District Administration is a normal inquiry and lamented that extra time has been sought  by the ADC for filling his inquiry report.
The committee has asked the concerned officer to ensure that he submit his report before November 30.
The District Administration of East Jaintia Hills including DC and SP who appeared before the Committee also informed that so far six persons have been arrested while two have been picked up for interrogation in connection with the assault on Khashiing and her colleague.
The committee is also contemplating to visit Khashiing  subject to the permission  of the doctors.
