Longevity Certificate recipient dies at 113

TURA: The oldest known living person from Garo Hills who was also the recipient of the Certificate of Longevity from the Department of Social Welfare in Meghalaya has died at the age of 113.
Late Nolleni Mrenda Momin was awarded the Certificate of Longevity by the Social Welfare Department on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons on October 1 2012, when she was 105 years old. Late Momin died from old age at Tura on Saturday.
Late Momin, who was born on a Sunday on April 11 in 1905 was the only daughter of Late Gelloram Rongma Marak and Late Usni Mrenda Momin. From her early childhood, she lived a life of devotion and dedication to the Almighty. She married Tangkan Sangma of Nidanpur in 1922 and became the mother of six siblings- 3 sons and 3 daughters.
After marrying, she lived with her family at Rongjuli in Assam where she was also an active member and leader of the Church. In 1985, desiring to unite with her sons and daughters and many grandchildren, she moved to Rongkhon in Tura where she spent her last days. Meanwhile, family members of Momin have expressed appreciation and gratitude to all those who gave them strength and support in their time of grief.
“We are thankful to Almighty God for giving our mother such a long life to live. We are also thankful to all those who helped us in whatever way and gave us support and strength by being with us during our time of grief,” a family member said.
