Two arrested for hoisting ULFA-I flag in Nagaon

GUWAHATI: Assam Police have arrested two persons in connection with hoisting of organisation flag of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) at Bhotai Gaon under Nagaon Police Station on November 28 last, a source in Assam Police headquarter here informed.

One of the arrested persons was identified as Bhaskar Borah (49) alias Raju Borah, S/O Late Bakul Chandra Borah from Chayali Poli Road under Nagaoan Sadar police station. He had joined ULFA in 1991 and surrendered in 1999.

The other arrested person is Naren Gohain (67), S/O Late Kamal Chandra Gohain from Difalau village under Nagaon Sadar Police Station. He is an erstwhile member of People Liberation Army (PLA) in Manipur and ex ULFA linkman.

One Opel Corsa vehicle bearing registration AS21 E 7249 (Silver Colour) which was used in committing the crime, and various other incriminating materials have been seized after the police had raided the houses of the two accused.

Both of them have confessed to their involvement in the crime and their association with the banned organisation ULFA.

It may be mentioned that Nagaon police had received an information at around 12.20 pm on November 28 about presence of a flag of the banned ULFA-I in Bhotai Gaon. Accordingly, police party from Nagaon Sadar Police Station immediately reached the spot and seized the flag.

In this connection a case was registered vide Nagaon PS Case No 4022/18 U/S 120 (B)/121/121 (A) IPC R/W 10/13 IPC Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
