JOWAI: The brother of a UDP leader in East Jaintia Hills was arrested on Friday for alleged drug trafficking.
The accused, Gen Bareh, is the brother of Finely Bareh, the district president of UDP. Police seized .24 gm of a narcotic substance from the accused.
“Since we got the information late, we could not lay a trap for him on time. When his vehicle was seized, we recovered only a small amount of intoxicant from his possession. He had already dealt with a customer before we could intercept him. What was left was for his consumption,” said a source in the EJH police.
Gen is a sectional assistant in the Public Works Department. Police registered a case against him.
