 Students embark on national integration tour
SHILLONG: A group of 26 students and seven teachers from all the North Eastern states were flagged off from Shillong on a visit to Delhi and Agra under the aegis of Assam Rifles. The students will be interacting with a large number of important dignitaries and personalities during the visit from December 1 to 11. They are also scheduled to visit various places of interest in Delhi & Agra. The National Integration Tour is aimed to educate and motivate youth of North Eastern States and to provide an insight into the rich heritage of the country as well as various developmental and industrial initiatives that are underway through visit to various historical monuments and other important landmarks in Delhi and Agra. The tour is unique as for the first time participants will be representing all the North Eastern states and they will also get an opportunity to share and highlight respective cultures, aspirations and challenges with their counterparts from the other states. Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan, Director General of Assam Rifles flagged off the tour.

Training on disaster management concludes
Shillong: A three-week long training programme on Disaster Management concluded at UGC-HRDC, North-Eastern University, Shillong on Saturday. The course started on November 12 in which 58 faculty members from different disciplines of various colleges and universities of North East India participated and acquired basic theoretical instructional skills and practical training. The valedictory function was chaired by Prof. Rakesh Mohan, Director; UGC-Human Resource Development Centre who expressed profound happiness and congratulated the course coordinator Dr. Jacinta I. Rapthap. Assistant Professor, NEHU for the successful completion of the course. He also highlighted that North East Region being the disaster prone area, this training programme is very important for keeping participants trained in case of any emergency arises at their work places. The course coordinator Dr. Rapthap, presented a detail report about the training programme and informed that 36 resource persons were invited from various academic departments of North Eastern Hill University and government and non-Governmen organisations, who interacted with the participants on types of disasters and their reduction strategies, preventive measures in the event of landslides, earthquakes and cyclones. She further informed that demonstrations and practical exercise on First aid, Search and Rescue Operations and Mock Drills were also conducted.

BSNL employees to go on indefinite strike
Shillong: As per the call given by the All Unions and Associations of BSNL ( AUAB ), BSNL Employees, both Executives and Non-Executives, NE-I Circle will go for an indefinite strike from December 3 in order to press settlement of their demands. It includes implementation of 3rd pay revision with 15% fitment, allotment of 4G spectrum to BSNL, revision of pension to BSNL retirees, payment of pension contribution by BSNL as per Govt rule and settlement of the left out issues of 2nd Pay Revision Committee.

IIM concludes sustainability conference
SHILLONG: IIM Shillong concluded the 7th edition of SUSCON, its Annual Sustainability Conference on Sustainability on Saturday. The 3-day conference, weaved around the theme ‘Community, Conservation and Cooperation’, started on Thursday and was flagged off with a welcome address by Prof Keya Sengupta, Director of IIM Shillong along with Prof Sanjoy Mukherjee, introducing the conference and its progress over the last 6 editions. The event hosted R Bandyopadhyay, IAS (Retd), Former Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs as the chief guest. The chief guest talked on the theme, “Competitiveness, Sustainability and Inclusiveness are the key components of the Triple Bottom Line approach” and emphasized the necessity of management education that encompasses components to improve economic profit, save the planet and provide sustainable growth opportunities to the people. The conference encompassed a series of three plenary sessions which witnessed stimulating ideas being brought to the forum by the dignitaries such as Tamas Varess, Corvinus University of Budapest, Hungary, Dr K. Baharul Islam, IIM Kashipur, Toki Blah, Former Chairperson,Social Audit Committee, Meghalaya, among others.

Musical concert organised by MLCU
Shillong : The Department of Music, Martin Luther Christian University in collaboration with Faith Foundation organised a musical concert in the city on Friday. The proceeds from the concert will go to projects that are being undertaken by Faith Foundation on dealing with child abuse in schools and communities. The students from the Department of Music, Martin Luther Christian University performed songs from different genres including western, traditional, North Eastern, and also original music that was composed by the students. Faith Foundation also launched their website on this day, which was inaugurated by M Ryntathiang, Grassroots.  Speaking with Sharon Massar, from Faith Foundation, she informed that the organisation works with children, parents, teachers and communities to teach them about being safe and also abuse of different kinds.
