Shillong: To provide better healthcare and a conducive environment, there is a need to have a healthy psychological approach to bring back a person with mental disorder to the mainstream, Chief Justice of the High Court, Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir said at the inaugural session of a seminar on mental health on Saturday.
The seminar is organised by the Meghalaya State Judicial Academy at the Conference Hall of the High Court of Meghalaya, Shillong.
The inaugural session was also attended by Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya, Justice H. S. Thangkhiew.
The Chief Justice also added that mental health is of utmost importance for the overall well being of physical health.
The inaugural programme was followed by a series of sessions wherein resource persons, Dr. Sandi Syiem, MD, (Psych) Director, San-Ker Hospital, Shillong, Dr. Arvind Nongpyiur, MD, DPM, Assistant Professor & HOD I/c NEIGRIHMS, Shillong and Shishir Tiwari, Assistant Professor, Law Department, NEHU, Shillong deliberated on the topics: Mental health issues from the perspectives of clinical psychiatry, Difference between legal insanity (Forensic Psychiatry) and medical insanity (Clinical Psychiatry) and Substantive Law Provisions respectively.
