5 killed as car hits stationary truck in Rajasthan
Jaipur: Five people, including a woman, have been killed and six injured in Rajasthan’s Dausa district when their car rammed into a stationary truck, police said on Sunday. The SUV was going to Ajmer from Gwalior when the incident occurred near Pipalkheda village on Saturday night, the SHO of Mahua Police Station, Amit Kumar, said. The deceased have been identified as Rinku (25), his son Param (6), Mahesh Jatav (52), Roshan Jatav (35) and Manju (50), the police official said. Kumar said the injured were rushed to a primary treatment centre, from where one critically injured woman was referred to government hospital in Dausa and the other three were discharged after primary treatment. The bodies have been handed over to their family members after post-mortem, police said, adding further investigation into the matter is on. (PTI)
Blast at Central Ammunition Depot: Labour contractor held
Mumbai: A labour contractor, who was absconding following an explosion near a Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) in Maharashtra’s Wardha district, has been arrested, police said. Shankar Chandak (40), resident of Pulgaon, was arrested on Saturday near the Old Collector Office in Wardha town, an official said. Chandak had allegedly supplied labourers for disposal of ammunition at the CAD at Pulgaon in Wardha district, said inspector Shankar Thakur of Deoli police station. An explosion during unloading of ammunition boxes killed six persons and injured 12 on November 20. Among the deceased, five were contractual workers. The police official said that probe revealed that the workers provided by Chandok were unskilled, and inappropriate handling of ammunition boxes led to the mishap. A case under IPC section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) was registered against Chandok on the same day and since then he was absconding, said inspector Thakur. He will be produced before a local court, the officer added. (PTI)
1 dead, 5 injured in clash over property dispute in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: One person was killed and five others injured in a clash between two groups over a property dispute at Dudheshwar locality in Ahmedabad on Saturday evening, police said. Mohammad Irfan Saiyad (30) was attacked with swords and shot by a group of people over a property dispute and he succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital, Madhavpura police inspector V N Rabari said Sunday. Five others sustained injuries in the clash and some vehicles were also set on fire, the official added. As per the FIR lodged by Ashfaq Saiyad, at around 11 pm, a group of people armed with swords and iron rods attacked him and others owing to an old property dispute, he said. Saiyad, in his complaint, has named local residents Suleiman Pathan and ten others for the attack, following which police registered a case under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 145 (unlawful assembly) of the IPC as well as the Arms Act. Rabari said no arrests had been made as yet. (PTI)
Mentally deranged man kills two in Tamil Nadu
Erode: Two people died and another injured when a 42-year-old man said to be mentally challenged allegedly attacked them in the district on Sunday, police said. Nallasamy attacked two people sleeping in a temple premises in Anthiyur, with a wooden log, they said. The duo including the watchman of the temple died on the spot, they said adding the deceased were aged around 50. Later, he stabbed another person at a bus terminus, using a knife. However, the villagers caught hold of Nallasamy and handed him over to the police. (PTI)
