NONGPOH: Former MLA of Nongpoh and the present Chief Adviser to the government of Meghalaya, Dr DD Lapang on Saturday inaugurated a motorable road constructed under the Meghalaya Livelihood and Access to Market Project (Megha-LAMP) at Pahamardoloi village in Ri Bhoi District.
Constructed with a total length of one kilometer with an estimated cost of  Rs. 32 lakhs, the road plays a vital role in promoting the economy of the area as most of the local populace were engaged in agriculture and farming.
Megha-LAMP is one of the projects initiated by the state government to improve the household incomes and quality of life in rural areas.
Addressing the function as chief guest, Dr DD Lapang expressed happiness to be a part of the inaugural programme while expressing hoped that the road will cater to the needs of the local populace.
Being one of the villages which produced agricultural products in huge quantity in the District, Lapang encouraged them to continue working hard in the time to come as well in order to increase their source of income and raise the standard of living.
Despite being in his old age, Lapang further assured the gathering that he would continue to serve the people while also urging them to work together for the overall development of the area in the near future.
The inaugural function here was attended by CB Syiem, former CEM KHADC, Minsing Makri, former Working President of Ri Bhoi District Congress Committee, Vincent Makri, local headman and the local populace at large.
