TURA: Meghalaya State Planning Board Chairman and MLA, Lambor Malngiang along with co-chairman and expert members on Tuesday held a review meeting with district officers of Garo Hills on the ongoing or proposed projects both Central and State schemes being implemented in the district.
Malngiang, while addressing the meeting informed that the review meeting was necessitated in order to discuss about various programmes being implemented in the district and also to speed up the pending schemes which are going on in the district. He added that this was in line with the information received from NITI Aayog and in following the guidelines provided by it.
The Chairman along with co-chairman and other members and officials will also be visiting a few proposed sites on Wednesday. While reviewing the programmes and implementation of Community and Rural Development Department with special reference to Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in all the districts of Garo Hills, issues and challenges faced by most of the districts were discussed. The East Garo Hills Project Director pointed to the shortage of technical manpower in the district, leading to delays in preparation of estimates and issuing of work order on time for the respective VEC members.
During the presentation of schemes under Tura Building Division, the concerned department highlighted the construction of Governor’s Guest House, office building for MPSC and Secondary Laboratory for Legal Metrology, District Museum, at Dakopgre, Permanent Court Building for Subordinate Judiciary at Tura, College of Architecture at Balalgre, Pine Mount International School at Doldegre, etc. while in South West Garo Hills the ongoing projects mentioned were proposed construction of DC Office at Ampati, construction of Engineering College at Ampati, etc. It was also informed about the proposed construction of DC’s office and Composite Residential Building, District Court and Quarters for Subordinate Judiciary at Resubelpara in North Garo Hills and construction of Polytechnic, Judicial Court and Residential Schools in East Garo Hills District.
For South Garo Hills the construction of a court building and residential school were mentioned as ongoing projects.
Other issues discussed were Health and Family Welfare department, Education, Agriculture and Horticulture with special emphasis on Agar Mission and Tourism.
