SHILLONG: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has expressed concern over the fact that the state is not performing well in competitive examinations like UPSC.
Speaking at a programme to felicitate the toppers at St Edmund’s College here on Saturday, Rymbui said though Meghalaya is a top ranking state in terms of education but it is not producing many IAS, IFS or IPS officers.
He said in the category of Indian Forest Service, the state could not produce any officer from 1986 to 2014 and even with regard to IAS, the state could not produce any officers from 1987 to 2017 when incumbent East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak cleared the IPS.
He also said as far as IAS is concerned, the last officer to clear the UPSC exam was South West Khasi Hills DC Isawanda Laloo in 2013.
Making a call for good administrators, Rymbui said bureaucrats have an important role to play in governance and the government needs bureaucrats from the state since there is a dearth
of senior bureaucrats from Meghalaya.
He expressed concern over the disturbing trend that there is a wide gap between teachers and students now.
