KHNAM asks schools to comply with school bag weight rule

SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) said that schools should strictly comply with the instructions of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) regarding the weight of schools bags.
The KHNAM cited the MHRD’s notification of October 10 this year instructing all states and Union Territories to formulate guidelines to regulate the teaching of subjects and weight of school bags.
In a statement issued here, the president of KHNAM youth wing, Thomas Passah, said that the Department of Education has been directed to comply with the instructions with immediate effect.
In its guidelines, the MHRD maintained that homework should not be assigned to students of classes I and II.
Further, schools should not prescribe any other subjects except Language and Mathematics for classes I and II and Language, EVS and Mathematics for students of classes II to V.
As per the instructions, students should not bring additional books or extra materials.
