Shylla asks MLAs, ministers not to delay KHADC bills
SHILLONG: The Nongkrem Constituency People’s Forum on Wednesday felicitated Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) MDCs for unanimously supporting the Bills passed by the KHADC at a programme held at Smit ground. KHADC Chief Executive Member, HS Shylla informed that the Governor of the state is willing to give his assent to the Bills and it is all up to the state government. “The MLAs should gather courage and they should not delay the bills,” he said at the programme. The four Bills that the MDCs gave their support to the KHAD (As Adapted from the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873) Regulation, 2018, the KHAD (The Khasi Social Custom of Lineage) (First Amendment), Bill, 2018, Khasi Hills Autonomous District (Constitution of Subordinate Council of Traditional Chiefs and headmen) Rules, 2018, KHAD (Khasi Social Custom of Clan Administration) Bill, 2018.
Tablets distributed to Class XII students of WJH
JOWAI: Education Minister, Lakhmen Rymbui distributed tablets for Class XII students from 27 institutions of West Jaintia Hills district at District Library Auditorium Mynthong, Jowai on Tuesday. Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui while addressing the students urged them to use the gadgets carefully and in a right way. No technology is superior to the human brain so we need technology to get information and not to solely depend on it, he added. While the Deputy Commissioner advice the students to live responsibly, set goals and to always aim high. Altogether 3076 M-tabs were distributed to the students.
LIA meet discusses Bangla polls impact
SHILLONG: The 46th directional-level Lead Intelligence Agency (LIA) meeting organised by Border Security Force at Conference Hall, Frontier HQ, BSF Umpling Camp, on Tuesday discussed the likely impact of the forthcoming Bangladesh elections on border domination and some important issues related to counter-intelligence BSF was nominated as LIA by the Group of Ministers (GOM) on October 22, 2002. The force over the time has shown its worth in intelligence at the Indo-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya with the help of other Central/state government intelligence agencies. Meghalaya Frontier mans the 444-km border with Bangladesh. The meeting was chaired by L Mohanti, IG, Meghalaya Frontier. U K Nayal, secretary of LIA, Meghalaya, welcomed the delegates and discussed issues related to counter-intelligence. He also apprised delegates about the likely impact of Bangladesh elections on border domination.
Mei-Ramew farmers’ market concludes for this year
Shillong: North East Slow Food & Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS) hosted its monthly and last for year, Mei-Ramew Farmers’ Market for the year 2018 on Wednesday at its headquarters in Laitumkhrah. The communities showcased and sold food produce which includes Nohshut, Wahsohra and Nongtraw from East Khasi Hills and Plasha from Ri-Bhoi. A joint sales display of smoked meat, pineapple, tapioca, varieties of beans, yams, wild edibles, sesame, honeys, bananas, turmeric, Indian gooseberries, star fruits, pumpkins and arrowroots was also showcased. The NESFAS Kitchen headed by young entrepreneurs; the E’sal team featured local Garo cuisine ‘Matchu tangsek pura’ and their signature dish ‘Cabbage roll dumplings in chicken’. “Tastes of Thailand” featured Thai food incorporated with locally available ingredients by 3 young chefs belonging to the indigenous groups of Akha and Karen, Northern Thailand. An Xmas stall showing innovations with millet the forgotten health food of our people, showcased Xmas cakes and gluten free millet products. More than 200 visitors made it to the fanfare that celebrated the local produce of the communities and foods.
NCC NER trek kicks off
SHILLONG: The NCC NER Trek, 2018 is being conducted at Assam Rifles Public School, Laitkor. The camp was inaugurated by Lt Gen Sukhdeep Sangwan, Director General Assam Rifles on Wednesday. The DG AR addressed the NCC cadets and motivated them to stand by the principles and ethos of NCC and become responsible citizens of the nation. Brig PM Bali, Gp Cdr Shillong was also present at the programme. The cadets during these eight days will undertake trekking activities and will also visit places of interest around Shillong. A total of 485 cadets from different parts of the country are attending the camp.
Livestock mela held in WJH
JOWAI: As part of the National Livestock Mission, the office of the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai organised a block level livestock mela at Lad Mukhla Community Hall, Ladmukhla under Thadlaskein C&RD Block.Speaking on the importance of livestock farming, local MLA, Wailadmiki Shylla and Chairman Meghalaya Commission on Resource Mobilization (MCRM) urged the people and farmers to work wholeheartedly to sustain livestock and to make use of the government schemes. Awards and certificates were also handed to farmers under Thadlaskein block.
Global team to visit EGH
WILLIAMNAGAR: The Global Funding Team from Geneva will visit the East Garo Hills from December 15 to 17 as the district have been chosen by the Directorate of National Vector Borne Disease Control Program, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, to showcase the success stories leading to malaria elimination by 2030. According to the District Medical and Health Officer, Janulla K Marak, team will be visiting the district for documenting the malaria programme by meeting the local implementing partners, following the community health workers and taking their photographs, videos, etc. The team will be made to witness the home visits, use of Long Lasting Insecticide tested Nets (LLIN) and testing the community awareness on malaria and documenting their stories as the district had shown a decline in malaria cases by 80 per cent in 2017.
Fifteen-year-old missing
Shillong: The office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills district in a press statement informed that fifteen-year-old Ashok Joshi has been missing since November 19 from Lower Lachumiere, PHE Compound. He is 4.5 ft, has a fair complexion, and his identification mark is that he has six toes. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black trousers and white socks.
