First ever rice fest held in EGH

WILLIAMNAGAR: Mangsang Rice Festival under the theme ‘Rice for Food and Income’ was organised by the Block Development Officer, Dambo-Rongjeng C&RD Block at Mangsang, East Garo Hills on Saturday.
The first ever rice festival was attended by Rongjeng MLA, Jim M Sangma as chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Sangma lauded the district administration, the BDO and the Basin Development Unit for the initiative to promote the rice varieties of Mangsang and adjoining areas and highlighted the adoption of scientific dual and multiple cropping system with better irrigation facilities which will ensure food security and income generation.
The buyers-sellers meet, display of agriculture inputs, tools and equipments, farmers’ rice out-let, indigenous games and sports and cultural programs were the highlights of the festival.
Others who spoke on the day included Darugre MDC, Metrinson G Momin, Deputy Commissioner, L Ch Marak, Dambo-Rongjeng BDO, SN Sangma, Nodal Officer of IBDLP, , PK Sangma, District Agriculture Officer, SN Marak and Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, JK Sangma.
