TURA: Strongly condemning the BJP-led NDA Government for passing the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in the Lok Sabha recently, the A’chik Youth Welfare Organization (AYWO) has vowed to continue opposing the bill.
In a statement to the media, Lyiend Roshan Marak, the organization’s publicity secretary said that the North East has been dominated by the hill tribals since ages and the passing of the controversial bill despite strong opposition by the whole region was merely a ruse to gain votes.
“Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has tried to downplay the fears of the North East people but let me first ask him this. If there was nothing to be apprehensive about, why did the JPC not take the opinion of the people? And why was a ‘half report’ recommended? This shows that the NDA Government does not care for the voice of the North East people,” Marak said.
In an effort to mobilize the people against the bill, the organisation will conduct a poster campaign in Tura under the theme ‘Save NE, Save Garo Hills’ on January 17. Marak has urged all citizens to participate in the campaign.
