SHILLONG: A body was recovered from an abandoned coal mine in East Jaintia Hills.
The recovery comes barely two weeks after the bodies of two men, who are presumed to have been killed when hit by boulders while extracting coal, were recovered in the district.
When contacted, East Jaintia Hills SP, S Nongtnger said, “I have nothing to say… You check the Whatsapp group.”
It may be mentioned that the East Jaintia Hills district has been in the headlines for a while for all the wrong reasons, be it the assault on CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing, and her colleague, Amita Sangma, or the mine disaster in which at least 15 miners continue to be trapped and are feared dead since December 13 in an illegal coal mine.
