TURA: A host of Garo Hills BJP leaders held a meeting on Monday wherein the party leaders reiterated their earlier position of setting up candidates for both the by-election in Selsella as well as the Lok Sabha seat for 2 – Tura Parliamentary seat.

The meeting was held yesterday at the party office in Tura and was attended by all of the top leaders of the party in Garo Hills. It was chaired by state vice president for the party, Rikman G Momin.

The party further appointed Digross D Shira as spokesperson for the party in Garo Hills in the meeting, authorizing him to provide timely inputs to the media for wide circulation as well be the point of contact for any related topics.

The party also showed solidarity with the coal trading community and asked for the allowing of coal trucks stranded on the roads to proceed to their destination.

“Despite the order of the Supreme Court and the state government to allow for stranded trucks to be allowed to proceed to their destination, 80-90% of them have been turned back and asked to return to their place of origin. We urge the government to allow those trucks to pass through,” stated the release by the BJP.

On the issue of coal mining ban by the NGT and the SC, the party blamed the state government for mishandling the issue due to a lack of coordination between the centre, state, lawyers and coal miners of the state.
