Shillong’s Crowbrough Hotel project far from getting completed

SHILLONG: More than two decades have gone but the proposed Hotel Crowbrough is far from being completed and now the soft opening of the Hotel will be done in January next year.

MLA Sanbor Shullai who is also the Chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation, along with MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar , Chairman MIDC and officials from both the department held a joint inspection of the project on Thursday to monitor the progress of work.

During the inspection, it was informed by the project in charge that the work was in progress and the soft opening of the hotel will be done by January 2020

It may be mentioned that hotel has partnered  with France-based Accor hotel groups and Novotel, the international acclaimed hotel brand from Accor group will make its debut in the capital city of Shillong.

The hotel has the capacity to provide jobs to 150 people as informed by the project in charge. During the meeting MLA Sanbor Shullai informed the project in charge to employ locals as there were  plenty of local youths who were now trained to work in hotel industry and also give opportunity to local contractor to execute the work so as to promote self-employment.

The Crowborough hotel  would be  Shillong’s  first 5 star hotel. The hotel was first conceptualised way back in the late 1980s .The delay of decades in the completion of the project did became a state shame

The 104-room hotel was suppose to have 8 economy rooms, 58 standard rooms, 30 deluxe rooms, 5 suites, 100-seater coffee shop, 80-seater specialty (Indian / Multi-cuisine) restaurant, 50-seater bar, 35-seater lounge, disco, banquet hall, convention facilities with state of the art seating and projection facilities, smaller meeting and committee rooms, guest amenities like beauty parlor, health club with fully equipped gym, steam, sauna and massage facilities and car parking besides a shopping arcade with 56 shops.
