KSU opposes appointment of former non tribal youth leaders

SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) opposed the appointment of two former leaders of Non Tribal Youths Union (NTYU) in different posts by the state government.

The government has appointed Pawan Sharma the former general secretary of NTYU as Vice Chairman of Meghalaya Commission on Resource Mobilisation and for president of NTYU Vijay Ray as Vice Chairman of Meghalaya Programme Implementation.

In a statement issued here, general secretary of KSU, Donald Thabah said the NTYU in the year 1990s was founded with an objective to suppress and oppose the rights of the Khasi community.

Further, he said the NTYU would hold agitations such as bandhs to oppose laws meant to protect the indigenous people and attempt to bring in laws that affects Khasi community such as bringing in the concept of municipal elections.

Terming the two NTYU leaders as enemies of Khasi community, Thabah said their appointment was a gift in recognition of  their agitation against  Khasi community in the past

Terming Sharma and Ray as adversaries of Khasi community, the KSU has threatened to agitate if the government does not withdraw their appointment.

Public Meeting

In order to  intensify their agitation against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) affiliated to North East Student’s Organization (NESO) will hold a public meeting on January 30 at Jaiaw Parking Lot, Motphran at 12 noon.

In a statement issued here, Thabah said the public meeting is as per the directions of NESO.

The union has appealed to the public to participate in the public meeting. The KSU and NESO have also appealed to Garo community to join in the public meeting.

The union has appealed the former members of the union, FKJGP, HNYF, RBYF, AJYWO, SSSS, KWWADA to join hands for the public rally.

Prior to the public meeting, a public rally will be held from office of the KSU, Jaiaw Chapel Road till Parking lot at Motphran.
