TURA: The All Garo Hills Joint Action Committee (AGHJAC) has announced a day-long protest on Wednesday against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) which currently is pending in the Rajya Sabha.

Convener of the AGHJAC, Balkarin Ch Marak informed that the decision to hold the day-long protest was taken after its meeting held on Monday at Asanang.

“We appeal to the people of Garo Hills to extend their full support and cooperation by stating that the granting of citizenship through the CAB to those illegal migrants residing in India who do not possess proper documents after six years will encourage other illegal migrants from the neighbouring countries which cannot be accepted by the AGHJAC at any cost,” Marak said.

On Monday’s meeting, the AGHJAC also discussed and resolved to follow-up the memorandum submitted earlier to the Chief Executive Member(CEM) of GHADC demanding preparation of Separate Electoral Roll barring non-indigenous people from taking part in GHADC Election.
