Missing teen’s family files FIR
SHILLONG: An FIR was filed reporting a missing person, Jadav Deka (18) from Upper Lachumiere near Dhankheti, Shillong on January 23.His sibling in the FIR filed at Laitumkhrah Police Station said he went out and did not return back home and his whereabouts is not known. Deka’s mobile phone is also switched off. The relative has urged the police to take necessary action on the matter.
Lukha fest to be held in EJH
SHILLONG: The Sonapyrdi Tourism and Eco-development Society will hold the Lukha festival on February 1 and 2. Addressing reporters here on Tuesday, president of the society, Daiapherbha Lamare said the aim of the festival is to promote tourism and provide gainful employment to youth. “The aim is also to make it one of the tourist destinations in Meghalaya. This will be good news for East Jaintia Hills as all these days we have been hearing negative news about the district,” he said. Lamare went on to claim that the Lukha river, which has been reported to be turning blue in the year 2007, is no longer blue as the cement factories have stopped discharging effluents to the river. He also refuted the report of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board which stated that coal mining is the reason behind the discoloration of the river.
NEHU participates in Pariksha Pe Charcha 2.0
SHILLONG: Students, teachers and staff of North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong joined the rest of the country in taking part in the interactive programme ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha 2.0’ at 11 am on Tuesday. Students of NEHU, research scholars and students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, NEHU along with the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. H. Lamin, Registrar, Dr. J.N. Nayak, Finance Officer, L.M.K, Lyngrah, Deans of various schools, teachers and staff witnessed via live video conferencing a lively and thought-provoking interaction between Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the students, teachers and parents at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. The programme also witnessed the participation of foreign countries like Russia, Nigeria, Oman, Doha, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Kuwait and Nepal.
Tura college organises District Youth Parliament
TURA: A District Youth Parliament was organised by the NSS, Durama College Tura on its premises on Monday under the National Youth Parliament, 2019 organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The purpose of the youth parliament was to allow the youth from between the ages of 18 to 25 years a platform to view their opinions on the topics- India sets Global Narratives on Terrorism, India sets Global Narratives on Economic Offenders, India sets Global Narratives on Climate Change, Khelo India, A gateway for Budding Sportspersons and Best time for India’s sportspersons to make a mark.The programme which was organised both for West Garo Hills and South Garo Hills districts was inaugurated by the Principal of the host college, J K Marak. A total of 19 participants from various educational institutions from the two districts participated in the youth parliament.The three winners in merit will now take part in the State Youth Parliament to be held at NEHU, Shillong on February 7.
