SHILLONG: The youth wing of the UDP Shillong City on Tuesday strongly supported the resolution adopted by the party’s central executive committee to oppose the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, and urged the MDA government to reject the BJP, a partner in the alliance.
In a statement issued here, the general secretary of UDP youth wing, Manbha Syiemlieh, said the party was opposing this bill because the “Centre has piloted and sponsored this bill to regularise it so that it becomes an act”.
“The bill is communal in nature and the content of the bill is divisive, which can possibly transpire into serious law and order problem in the whole of North East India. Despite massive protest against the bill in NE, Narendra Modi went against the sentiments and genuine concern of the indigenous population in the region. This proves that the BJP only thinks about its political advantages without considering the survival of the indigenous community,” he said.
The youth wing also endorsed the leaders of the party for attending the All North East Regional Political Parties Meet held in Guwahati.
On BJP support to the MDA government in Meghalaya, the youth wing urged the NPP and the MDA allies to do away with the saffron support.
Two BJP MLAs, AL Hek and Sanbor Shullai, are supporting the NPP-led MDA government.
“This is just another form of demographic invasion. While the Congress is dependent on Muslim vote bank, the BJP attempts to offset this by increasing Hindu vote bank. This leaves us, the indigenous community, with the risk of becoming foreigners in our own land,” Syiemlieh added.
