Itanagar: The Chief of Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat on Sunday called on Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) BD Mishra at Raj Bhavan here. A special function participated by the students of Donyi Polo Mission School for Hearing and Visually Impaired, Chimpu and Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh was conducted in the honour of the visiting Army Chief, a Raj Bhavan statement said. Speaking on the occasion, the Governor conveyed the goodwill of the people of Arunachal Pradesh to the General for latter’s gesture in increasing the vacancies for the Arunachali youth in the Indian Army. He underscored the contribution of Indian Army towards the care that take of the citizens of the State around their posts and pickets. The Governor also mentioned the initiative of 17th Battalion of Rajputana Rifles in Gelemo Village in Upper Subansiri, where they opened a primary school for the village tiny tots. Handing over a report about ‘Pay Back to Society Group’ (PBSG), the Governor appreciated General Rawat’s good gesture to help the PBSG. He said that it is because of the Indian Army, that the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Nation are intact. In his address, General Rawat praised the people of Arunachal Pradesh who have always helped the Indian Army in a big way. He expressed the need of the two to work jointly in the national interest. The General, while acknowledging the effort of the Governor for facilitating recruitment of local youth of the State said that there are many very good officers of Arunachal Pradesh in the Indian armed forces. Appreciating the students, the General advised them to preserve their cultural heritage. He also felicitated four meritorious students on the occasion. (UNI)
