Toothbrush out of stomach without surgery

SHIILLONG: A group of doctors managed to extract a toothbrush that was stuck in a woman’s stomach without surgery.
The woman swallowed the toothbrush on January 28 while brushing and it was stuck in the stomach for a few days. After being referred to few doctors, she was advised to visit Dr Isaac Syiem, a senior surgeon at Shillong Civil Hospital
Initially, the doctor was not being able to detect the toothbrush through X-ray after which an endoscopy was conducted and the object was detected.
Dr Syiem used a special procedure of endoscopic removal from the stomach through her mouth to avoid surgery.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Thursday, he said that the patient does not need medications now as she is fine.
He also said that the woman was absolutely fine when she was brought for medical check-up.
