Illegal extraction of sand takes toll on Garo Hills river

TURA: A river passing through Upper Rongbu village in Kharkutta is severely damaged following months of illegal sand extraction from the river bed by a businessman who reportedly used a JCB earth mover to carry away the sand in the process destroying the aquatic life.

Several such instances are taking place alongside rivers in different parts of Garo Hills.
