Arson accused dies while in judicial custody

TURA: An accused in an arson case from Dalu has died of illness in a hospital while in judicial custody on Monday.

The accused, undertrial prisoner Tengkan N Marak (34) of Baburambil under Dalu police station was admitted to the Tura Civil Hospital on February 5th after he fell ill while in judicial custody in the Tura district jail.

He had been arrested on February 4th on a non bailable arrest warrant under various sections of the Indian Penal Code connected to arson, rioting, damage to property and unlawful gathering.

He reportedly complained of being unwell while in jail and was later admitted in hospital for treatment.

“He had been arrested in connection with case HR233/12and produced before Court in connection to case GR233/12 on an NWBA and was sent to judicial custody. He complained of sickness and was admitted to hospital on Feb 5. He died yesterday in the UTP ward due to sickness. A report on the same has been submitted to Araimile Beat House by jail authorities and a magisterial inquest done,” informed West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police, MGR Kumar.
