SHILLONG: The BSF will raise the issue of the presence of Indian insurgent groups in Bangladesh during the IB and regional commander level talks between BGB and BSF being held in Chattogram, Bangladesh

A BSF official said that apart from the issue of insurgency, many other important matters pertaining to trans border crimes, developmental issues along the border will also be discussed during the meeting.

In addition, the issue of border fencing will also be discussed at length since there are 13 patches in Indian side which is coming within the 150 yards of the actual border line and BSF will have to seek concurrence of the Bangladesh Government for moving ahead with the work

It was also said that the BGB in principle had agreed to allow the BSF to continue with the fencing in the 13 patches but detailed discussion would take place on the matter.

The regional commander meeting is being attended by BSF officials in the North Eastern states and a delegation of BSF have already left for the meeting.

It may be mentioned that Meghalaya shares around 443 kms of border with Bangladesh and the border is often used for trans-border crime such as smuggling of cattle and even infiltration.
