SHILLONG: The war of words between the ruling NPP and the Opposition Congress has intensified over different issues, including the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill with Deputy Chief Minister and NPP leader Prestone Tynsong claiming that the Congress under the leadership of Mukul Sangma will be wiped out from the state after the autonomous district council elections.
“The Congress under Mukul Sangma will be completely wiped out after the JHADC and KHADC elections,” said Tynsong, adding , “we are going to prove this on March 2 when the counting takes place”.
Pointing out that the Congress has been already wiped out in the entire North East, he said the same fate awaits the party in Meghalaya where it has suffered several jolts in the past one year.
According to Tynsong, Mukul Sangma is desperate after seeing Conrad Sangma getting everyone together be it the NGOs or the political parties and getting things done on the issue of CAB.
“Downfall of the Congress party under the leadership of Mukul Sangma is inevitable,” he added.
Tynsong’s prediction about the Congress comes after Mukul Sangma’s attack on the BJP allies on the issue of CAB. He had said that the BJP’s partners, which were instrumental in trying to get the bill cleared in the Rajya Sabha, were now shedding crocodile tears to save themselves from the people’s wrath.
Tynsong said, “I am not surprised when he reacted that way since he himself has acted like that.”
Pointing out that Mukul Sangma has come out strongly against the bill only now, Tynsong questioned, “Why now and not six months ago? Being the leader of the Opposition he should have done that, instead we did it.”
