JOWAI: A 20-year-old girl from East Jaintia Hills has lodged a complaint against the JHADC CEM, MB Rymbai for allegedly molesting her in a hotel room in New Delhi in November.
Sources informed that the girl is a BA student in Jowai and she was introduced to Rymbai by her friend for a job in the district council.
Since then, both exchanged their phone numbers and one day, he invited her to accompany him to Delhi.
Sources also informed that Rymbai, along with one of his friends and the girl, left for Delhi and later, she was allegedly molested by him in his hotel room.
“She wanted to see Delhi and board a plane and hence she decided to go with Rymbai without knowing his illicit motive” a source close to her family said.
The girl was afraid to reveal the matter to the family members and it was only on February 12 that she came to Jowai police station to file a complaint against Rymbai.
Sources informed that when Rymbai learnt that the girl had filed a complaint against him, he sent some of his friends to meet the girl’s family members and asked them to withdraw the FIR. They also explained to the family that they will be facing difficulties to go to Delhi when police needed her statement and it would be good for her to withdraw the complaint.
Sources informed that the family rushed to Jowai to meet the girl so that she can withdraw the FIR.
However, the girl was not at home and she did not want to withdraw the complaint.
Later, when the family told her that they have no money to spend if she was called to Delhi by police, she decided to withdraw the FIR but in vain as the police did not allow her to do so and told the family that the matter is now with the Delhi Police.
When contacted, the West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police Lakador Syiem confirmed that they have received the FIR from the girl on February 12 and since the incident was not under their jurisdiction, a zero -FIR was registered and the same was transferred to the office of the Delhi Police Commissioner.
When contacted, Rymbai said the girl made the allegation in view of the upcoming district council polls.
He added that the allegation is politically motivated.
The JHADC chief was in the news for wrong reasons be it the threatening case or the misappropriation of public funds of Rs 3 crore which are still under police investigation.
