SHILLONG: The United Achik Youth Federation (UAYF) has demanded probe into the non functional Maheshkhola dispensary, Gillagora Sub-Centre and Khonjoy PHC:
According to UAYF, there are three medical establishments under Maheshkhola, Gillagora and Khonjoy of Ranikor constituency which are not serving the poor rural citizens.
The president of UAYF Sanggra Marak recently gathered ground reports to find out why there is negligence of health care.
There is a dispensary at Moheshkhola which was established in the 1980s and at present, Silchira T Sangma from Sibari,South Garo Hills, is deployed as ANM (Nurse in-charge) of Moheshkhola dispensary to take care all kinds of primary medical needs of the area.”She is supposed to be present in the institute for all the working days to give service to the citizens but she never attends to duty after she was appointed.
In this context, the residents are completely at the mercy of Bangladesh medical practitioners.
“In order to fulfil almost all the medical requirements including the emergency delivery of pregnant women and post delivery necessities, the residents are bounded to rush all the way to the Bangladesh crossing the international border”, Marak said. There is another health sub-centre at Gillagora which was supposed to provide medical service to the citizens living along the deep impenetrable jungle of the region who are not easily accessible to Moheshkhola area.
“This sub-centre is in a dilapidated and abandoned stage having no staff nurse or doctors. There was an inspection by the medical department to fix this problem in September 2018 but till now nothing has been done”, Marak said.
Another concern is related to the PHC of Khonjoy.
Though many promises were made by the political parties to appoint staff, the PHC has no doctor.
Marak said if the government does not address the concerns of the people of Maheshkhola, Gillagora and Khonjoy, a series of mass protests and rallies will be organized in Shillong.
