3 men caught for misconduct
SHILLONG: Three persons were apprehended by the public for reportedly outraging the modesty of a woman in West Garo Hills. Victor Marak of Tikrikilla lodged a complaint that on February 20, he received information from the Nokma of Raksamgre village that three persons identified as Fareed Khan, Md. Sheer Khan and Md. Shadab Khan were apprehended by the public for attempting to outrage the modesty of a woman in their village. Later, they were assaulted but police rescued them and shifted to PHC Tikrikilla from where they were referred to Civil Hospital, Tura. In the incident, one Mridul Hussain (driver of vehicle) escaped from public assault and he was taken into protective custody.
Special enrolment camps
Jowai/ TURA: The Deputy Commissioner ( Election) , West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai had informed that special camps will be organised at all polling stations of the district on March 8 and March 9 for enrolment of left out eligible voters. Meanwhile, the District Election Officer of West Garo Hills has also informed the general public that in view of the impending General Election to the Lok Sabha, 2019, direction has been given for special camps to be set up in each polling station on March 8 and 9 for enrollment of left out eligible voters. The special camps aim to provide further opportunity in campaign mode to all un-enrolled eligible persons to get their names registered in the electoral rolls during continuous updation period. In this regard, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) should remain present in their respective polling stations along with copies of final electoral rolls and copies of forms 6, 7, 8, 8A to facilitate filling up forms by interested persons. All are requested to check their names in the electoral rolls and fill up Form 6 if their name does not exist in the roll for some reason, the directive added.
Free cataract check up
JOWAI: The District Medical & Health Officer, West Jaintia Hills District will be organising a free cataract eye screening camp under the National Programme for control of blindness for persons above 40 years of age at different places in the district. On March 1 it will be held at Khliehriat CHC, on March 7 at Ialong Civil Hospital, March 14 at Nongtalang CHC and on March 21 at Ummulong CHC from 10am to 2pm.
NE Innovators meet to be held
Shillong: The State Council of Science, Technology and Environment (SCSTE), Meghalaya in collaboration with Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA), National Innovation Foundation-India and Bio-Resources Development Centre will be organising the North East Innovators Meet and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (TIE) Expo 2019 on February 28 and March 1, as part of the National Science Day 2019 celebration at Convocation Hall, NEHU Campus, Mawlai. The theme of the programme is “Science for People and People for Science’. There will be a display of innovations from grassroots innovators from different parts of the country brought by National Innovation Foundation-India, display of technologies from CSIR laboratories, scientific organisations and agencies. Besides, there will be technical sessions and also discussions between traders, entrepreneurs and start-ups during the two days. A workshop on using discarded computers and printer parts to make prototypes will be organised for students coming from different blocks and district headquarters of the state.
Teacher produces fake orders
TURA: The teaching staff including the Headmistress of the Khetadhowa SSA Upper Primary School in West Garo Hills has written to the District Mission Coordinator (DMC) alleging a particular teacher of procuring fake orders and claiming to be the head teacher of the school. According to the teachers, a particular Hindi teacher claimed to have in his possession, two orders issued in the name of the then DMC, one in September 2018 and another in November of the same year. While the first order directed the Joint DMC of Dadenggre to release the salary of said teacher, the other was in connection with appointing him to the post of the Head Teacher. Following the claims, the teachers filed an RTI at the Office of the DMC, Tura. After getting its reply it was found that no such orders were ever issued by the office. Following their findings, the teachers have submitted a complaint against the Hindi teacher to the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and the District Mission Coordinator in Tura urging both to take immediate action on the matter.
