SHILLONG: The second toll gate plaza on the 102-kilomtere Jowai-Ratacherra road would become functional from March 1.
The existing toll gate on the road falls in East Jaintia Hills.
An official said that the construction of the toll gate in West Jaintia Hills district has been completed and the agency, which will operate it, has been deployed.
The NHAI had earlier faced difficulties to construct the second toll plaza at Ialong since there were certain objections from a land owner.
Though the road project was completed in March last year, the NHAI was facing several constraints for setting up the toll plaza due to land hurdles.
Toll plazas are generally installed at six-lane points, but the one in West Jaintia Hills will be on a four lane due to non-availability of land.
GR Infrastructure, which implemented the project, has to maintain the road for another 3 years, an official said adding the 102-km road was constructed at a cost of Rs 683 crore by the NHAI.
Sources also said that now there is a proposal to further upgrade the road into four lane for which work on the DPR has begun.
