TURA: Sakhi , a One Stop Centre (OSC) for rehabilitation of women affected by violence was launched at Ampati in South West Garo Hills in the presence of district officials, police, health functionaries and other citizens of the district on Monday afternoon.
The centre will function temporarily from the premises of DMHO’s Office near Ampati Police Station and will cater to the needs of women in distress by providing comprehensive medical care, emotional support through counselling, legal assistance, temporary shelter and facilitate medical reporting for women who have been victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, etc.
Hailing the launch of a much needed facility for victims of violence against women, District Police Chief, Rituraj Ravi said many women victims are reluctant to go to the police station out of fear and expressed hope that the launch of this centre would encourage women to come forward with their problems.
EAC, Ampati, Dr. W.C. R. Marak also urged upon the womenfolk not to remain silent victims of abuse and violence and said now that they have this centre they should be able to come forward boldly to report their cases and avail the facilities being offered by the centre.
The programme to mark the launch of the One Stop Centre was organized by the District Social Welfare Officer, Ampati, L.J. Sangma who is also the Member-Secretary of the District Level Task Force Committee for implementation of the OSC scheme.
